There are two exquisite white raised slip scenes on the vase. The decorations rise from near the bottom of the vase and continue into the neck. The beautiful celadon color of the vase is highly sought by collectors. The inside of the vase is white porcelain.
The vase is marked on the bottom and was possibly made in mid-20th century (1950 - 1970). Prunus or plum trees in Chinese art are symbolic of courage and hope because the tree is the first to bloom and is strong in winter. The five petals of the flower are quite auspicious and thought to bring happiness, good fortune and longevity. The two prunus trees and many blossoms on the white slip decorations on the vase are quite beautiful. There are two birds in each tree that gaze at each other. Slip porcelain is made by using finely grained particles sorted from clay by soaking it in water.
The fine grained clay results in a finer surface on the porcelain. This technique was one of the earliest in the development of Chinese ceramics and was particularly popular in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). Slip decorations are one of the finest decorations used by Chinese artisans.Slip porcelain is difficult to find and highly prized by collectors. Chinese slip porcelain vases of this size and quality are difficult to find. I have only been able to acquire perhaps ten pieces of slip porcelain in 50 years of collecting.
The substantial stand supports the weight of the vase (4.87 pounds) and displays it beautifully. The stand is in very good vintage condition with expected wear. There are some surface scratches and signs of use.
There no repairs, missing pieces, cracks or damage to the stand. The rare Chinese celadon slip porcelain vase is in excellent vintage condition with expected normal wear.
There could be minor surface scratches. There are remnants of old felt pads on the edge of the bottom which show some age. These can be easily removed by the new owner. I could not find any chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs or damage to the vase. Width across at widest point: 7. Diameter at top: 4 3/8. Diameter of base: 4 1/2. This large & exquisite vintage Chinese celadon white slip porcelain vase is rare and in excellent condition.
