LARGE FUKAGAWA JAPANESE PORCELAIN ORCHID VASE. It's made of high quality white porcelain with a hand-painted floral decoration. This large vase depicts lavender orchid blooms with blue and green leaves against a light blue background. The top rim is trimmed in gold.
The vase stands about 9 3/4" tall and the ovoid body measures approximately 7 3/4" wide near the shoulders. The underside of the base is marked with the Fukagawa logo used during the 1970's and 1980's. The company was founded in 1894 by Chuji Fukagawa and became famous when they won the gold prize at the World Exposition held in Paris in 1900.
In 1910, Fukagawa Porcelain was appointed purveyor for the Imperial Household, which is Japan's highest honor for porcelain manufacturers. The company still exists and is run by a new generation of the Fukagawa family. They continue to produce some of the finest contemporary Imari available in Japan. Condition of this Fukagawa vase is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, fleabites, or crazing. The gold trim has some small discoloration spots.
The vase is very clean inside and was obviously well cared for. It looks fantastic and displays beautifully. This vase would make a fine addition to any Japanese porcelain collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. Top Rim Trimmed in Gold.
